It can can quickly secure things together and is reusable. Instead of cutting a rope every time, just have a ratchet strap or two handy. The ratcheting power of the strap is also handy since you dont have to worry about knots--tying or untying.
Ive used ratchet straps on large heavy cases as a way to lift and hold those cases since they didn have handles.
